Cheerio, my friends!
In tribute to the Jubilee festivities, I'll share a few images from our recent day in our favorite city.
When I was 14, we spent a magical summer outside of London, near Richmond, in a centuries-old house with narrow staircases and crooked beams and hidden rooms. We absorbed with wide-eyed wonder London's architecture, museums, galleries, shops and parks, creating indelible memories as we explored each cobble-stoned street. Ever since, we've adored her unique blend of history, charm, quirkiness and style. Subsequently, I attended a summer course at a London drama school, lived and worked in the city, and visit whenever possible. I've been fortunate to marvel at many of the world's great cities, from Tokyo to Rome to Paris, but dear London will always have my heart. So, when a frustrating flight delay in April necessitated an overnight stay, we were {secretly} delighted. (And was the only sunny day that week.) :)
Some of my favorite London activities:
Visit the National Portrait Gallery and the Tate Britain Gallery
Linger over tea and cakes at Fortnum and Mason
Walk along the Thames at dusk
Attend a performance at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park (summer)
Warm up with hot chestnuts from a street vendor (winter)
Scout for treasures at an antiquarian book shop
Sigh over incredible fabrics at Liberty
Say hello to the Shakespeare statue in Leicester Square
Stroll through any of the parks - St. James, Hyde Park, Hamstead Heath
Soak up the lively atmosphere at Covent Garden and Neal's Yard
Listen to Big Ben chime the hour, any time of day
Have you been lucky enough to visit or live in London? What do you love most there?
We are having the soggiest start to summer here in the Northwest. Hope your days are sunny and bright.

Beautiful images!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely...!! I lived in England when I was three which means, unfortunately, I have very few memories of it. I do, however, remember the pigeons attacking my hair in Trafalgar Square. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe how you are able to capture each image so perfectly, that I get a sense of being transported into the frame.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

London has never looked as pretty as in your photos? Were you able to visit Borough Market this time?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Never been there, but will dream to after having seen you pictures and read your post)))
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to Russia? ;)
I love London, you captured it perfectly with a dose of dreamy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's Georgianna...you were so fortunate to have blue skies and sunshine! My husband is from England and lived for most of his life in the Cotswolds but worked in London for many years. He moved to Canada when we married but we still have family living there. When we visit we're usually off to the Cotswolds and Wilton which are both lovely areas to visit but unfortunately my stays in the city have been short and few. (and I hope to rectify that one day) Blessings, Kate
ReplyDeleteThe Penmaker and I visited Scotland in 1976 and took a train down to London for a week's stay. I know that's ages ago, but I've never forgotten the charm and beauty of that magnificent city.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the photos... am especially liking the horse with the black spot. They're all fantastic... looking forward to seeing more!
I love your photos and your favorites list of London! We were there 20 years ago this July for a month long visit of England and Scotland. We enjoyed the many sights and can't name a favorite. I would love to return one day and take lots of pics with my digital camera. My camera at that time was a 35 mm SLR film which made multiple photos impossible. I had to choose my shots carefully and sparingly. LOL Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteHello G
ReplyDeleteI've not been London or anywhere across the big pond. I do, however, see the sights through your photography and love all that you share.
Judith
London through your eyes is so pretty G, I'm loving these photos :) It's such a great city! I have so much family over there, I've been over and back a couple of times since I was a young girl and every time it's still so wonderful. Convent Garden is one of my favourite places too, there's always such a great atmosphere there. Glad to see you had a good time x
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed and loved seeing your pictures from London! Beautiful! :) I've been there a couple of times but it's a couple of years since my last visit. I hope to go there again soon. Looking forward to more pictures!
ReplyDeleteNext time you're in Europe you definitely should come to Sweden! I'll be your guide... ;) xo
Your shots of London Town are beautiful! We were there about 4 years ago and my favorite part was going to the Chelsea Flower Show.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go back to England and stay in the Cotswolds for a couple of weeks.
Take care,
Carolyn

Dear Georgianna,
ReplyDeleteYou have shared some beautiful photographs of London.
The both times we have been there, enjoyed every moment of it.
One time we stayed in Sloane Square and the other opposite Hyde Park and walking around Hyde Park, riding the double decker bus and seeing all the magnificent sights were some of the things I enjoyed.
Will keep your list in mind for next time, thanks.
Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Hello dear G.! It's been far too long since I've visited your lovely blog! Your images of London are breathtakingly gorgeous! I've never been to London (or England for that matter) but through your eyes it looks magical. I can only imagine how delightful it would have been to live in a house like you did - even if it was just for a summer. :) Sometimes layovers turn out to be blessings in disguise!
ReplyDeleteHope your weather has dried up a bit! Have a lovely week! xo, Lynda
OMG. those tiltshift photos are just perfect. Love them all.
ReplyDeleteYour photos make me dream !!! After Paris, I hope next year, London will be my next trip to this beautiful city. I better start saving money soon... :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to find this post as we were in London this week ;-) I was hoping to make it to Covent Garden but we got delayed so we had to cancel those plans. But I'm hoping to go again in August/September to make up for that.
ReplyDeleteWe were discussing it while we sat drinking amazing lattes in Whole Foods (on Kensington High Street) that the surrounding area is our London comfort zone. I just feel like home when I'm there. The hotel is right between Kensington High Street and Notting Hill Gate, so quiet and lovely, and then the Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park is just a few steps away. Love it.
BEAUTIFUL images here, Georgianna.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a lucky girl to have spent so much time in London,
and near there. *sigh*
I've never been, but it's at the top of my wish list. In fact,
I keep trying to convince my husband we should move there for a year,
since I just know a couple of weeks won't do for me. LOL.
Thank you for sharing such beauty with us.
love,
Sherilyn
