Dogwood Daydream

I love our little pink dogwood tree, (Cornus florida rubra). It was in bloom that first lovely spring day when we found our home.
I have been out of town shooting for much of the last week. Many new collections to share with you, including apple blossoms, lilacs and narcissus but first must get them sent to clients! See you very soon and have a most joyful week of soft spring-time daydreams. They do come true, you know!

p.s. I've gotten several requests for shooting info on my images so I'm going to start incorporating that here. This series is all majorly straight out of the camera, with minor contrast or exposure adjustments. #1-3 were shot with a 105mm f/2.8 macro lens at f/3.2, 1/1600th, handheld, #4 and #5 with a 50mm f/1/4 lens at f/2.0, #6-9 with a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens, f/3.2 at 1/100th, tripod, indoors with window light. :) – g

  2. Beautiful shots, the background in the first photo is stunning. Is it outdoors? I've never seen dogwood until in blogs, it's so great to learn new things this way :)

And thanks for sharing the shooting info, it's really interesting!

  3. Hi Moa and Jutta! So lovely to hear from my Scandinavian friends first thing in the morning! Dogwoods are beautiful woodland trees. Usually the blooms are white or creams but there are many pink variations now. They are very common in residential gardens here so the whole city has this beautiful salmon pink around right now.

Jutta, the first photo was shot outdoors. Due to the very shallow depth of field with the lens and setting, the branches behind look like wispy clouds. I like this one, too. Have a wonderful day! xo

  5. So gorgeous Georgianna! I Love dogwoods of any color, but the pink just seem more sweet don't they? I am so happy that here in the South they are very abundant! I love how you put a branch in a bottle!! great idea, I would have never thought of that.....but then again, they're not MY tree, so I don't take the flowers. :)
    Happy Spring!

  6. What a beautiful dogwood! I was bringing in apple blossom branches as long as they were blooming, to display in vases and bottles. I miss them now!

  7. Dear Georgianna,
I love the open habit of dogwood flowers. You have captured them so beautifully, as always. Sometimes, aftr enjoying your photographs, I want to "pull up stakes" and move to your part of the world. Living at 6,000 feet, in central Utah, makes for many challenges.
My flowers are at their zenith the first week of August and then the first frost hits the middle of September. But it is all worth it.

  10. I don't think we have dogwood in Italy either, at least not this type and not very common... Possible?

Beautiful anyway! I love when you dedicate a whole post to the study of the same subject.
Can't wait for the new collections! (Specially for the apple blossoms)

The petals are some of the prettiest I've seen. Saw your comment at Ead's on the bracelet. Feeling it's really nice that sthing I made will be there with her on her wedding day!

  18. Stunned and awed. I'm not sure if I'm more amazed that your images are SOOC or just by the images themselves.
